Lone Terrorism refers to violent acts carried out in support of some group, movement, or ideology by a single individual in the absence of assistance of an outside group. How do we ensure a comprehensive assessment of risk factors for such tragic acts before they happen? This exclusive training from the Global Institute of Forensic Research presents the development and utility of the Terrorist Radicalization Assessment Protocol-18 (TRAP-18). The instrument is designed to code for 8 proximal warning behaviors (such as pathway, identification, fixation, and novel aggression) and 10 longer term distal characteristics (such as personal grievance, ideological framing, virtual networking, and psychopathology). Research concerning the TRAP-18 is ongoing in both North America and Europe, and findings are demonstrating both inter-rater reliability and criterion validity. International Conference on Terrorism, Extremism and Mental Health Services

This conference will be of interest to mental health professionals – psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurses and managers – and also to counter-terrorism practitioners and academics in terrorism studies. The growing evidence that mental disorders are of importance in this area, contrary to the previous consensus, will be explored. Call for abstracts – APATAP Conference in Signapore, 13 – 15 February 2017

The threat from within: from home grown terrorists, to terrorists within the home and workplace.

APATAP supports both learning in the region and the study of Asia Pacific behaviours, and is seeking presenters with both global and regional perspectives and experiences of threat management. Submissions may address:

Violent extremism
Workplace violence
Managing threats to organisations
Multidisciplinary threat assessment
Systems approaches to threat management and the interplay between these systems: The policing, health, education and corporate sectors
Family violence: risk assessment, stalking, the impact of family violence on the workplace, and management and interventions
Social media and threat management
Case studies highlighting different approaches to threat management, from the identification of a problem to its resolution. We encourage submissions of cases that will incorporate audience participation and comment, and may include cases in which the outcome was less than optimal.

Stalking Risk Profile Workshop, London

The intensive two-day workshop provides participants with accredited training in the administration and use of the Stalking Risk Profile: Guidelines for the assessment and management of stalkers (SRP). In the course of the two days, participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the various motivations for stalking, the different types of risk present in stalking situations and the identification and implementation of appropriate treatment and management strategies. They will be trained in how to use the SRP to provide opinions to assist the courts with sentencing and support other referral services in the development of comprehensive treatment and management plans for stalkers.
