Ismael Loinaz

Ismael Loinaz, PhD, is a psychologist and criminologist specializing in violence risk assessment, forensic psychology, and offender rehabilitation. He is affiliated with the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) and previously served as Professor of Criminology and Psychology at the University of Barcelona.

His research and professional work focus on the assessment, management, and prevention of violence, particularly intimate partner violence, sexual violence, child-to-parent violence, and female offending. He has led and collaborated on numerous publicly funded research projects and has provided consultation and training to justice, security, and correctional agencies in Spain and internationally.

Dr. Loinaz is the author of the Spanish reference handbook Manual de Evaluación del Riesgo de Violencia (Pirámide, 2017) and has published extensively in international peer-reviewed journals on violence, recidivism, forensic assessment, and risk management. His work integrates scientific research, professional practice, and policy development, with a particular interest in evidence-based approaches to violence prevention and risk management in criminal justice and public safety settings.

He serves on the Board of Directors of the Spanish Society of Legal and Forensic Psychology (SEPJF), is Associate Editor of the Journal of Threat Assessment and Management, and serves on the editorial boards of several academic journals, including the International E-Journal of Criminal Sciences, Psychology, Public Policy, and Law, and the Ibero-American Journal of Psychology and Public Policy.
